It's shocking to learn that only 8% of girls in Tanzania are graduating high school and that one in three are married before they turn eighteen. Sadly, early marriage, pregnancy, and lack of access to reproductive education are some of the main reasons why girls drop out of school. This is why it's crucial for girls to receive education on what their menstrual cycle is, what is happening, and how to handle it.
In Tanzania, this lack of education and access to menstrual products is particularly dire. Shockingly, 85% of women lack access to menstrual products and education. This is due to several factors which impact girls and their place in society. As a result, girls often resort to using dirty pieces of cloth or pieces of rugs during their menstrual cycle, which can lead to embarrassing leakage or even worse, bacterial infections. These issues cause some girls to miss school during their menstrual cycle, or to drop out altogether.
At More Precious Than Pearls, we believe that every woman and girl deserves access to menstrual health and hygiene education and products, regardless of where they live. That's why we've made it our mission to empower women and girls in the most vulnerable areas of Tanzania. We provide education on menstrual health and hygiene, along with reusable menstrual products, to ensure that these women and girls have the resources they need to manage their periods safely and with dignity.
But we don't stop there. We also teach self-awareness, self-worth, and Christian values so that these women and girls understand their true value and potential. We believe that they are More Precious Than Pearls, and we are committed to helping them see that for themselves. Join us in our mission to empower women and girls in Tanzania and create a brighter future for all.
