Thank you for taking an interest in More Precious Than Pearls. Our non-profit organization aims to empower women and girls to create their own futures, by providing them with educational tools on reproductive health, self-awareness, nutrition, and much more.
About a year ago, Brandy Vath, Founder of More Precious Than Pearls, went on a mission trip to Tanzania. During this trip, Vath was told that,
One of the main reasons for this is the lack of reproductive education and resources available to them when they start their menstrual cycles. Many girls are unaware of what is happening to them and are afraid to seek help due to financial constraints, local beliefs, and cultural taboos.
As Vath researched this pressing issue she found that young girls between the ages of 10-14 in certain areas are only taught that they are now women and can get married and have babies. Vath knew that menstrual education could be crucial for these young girls' health and well-being. She found that many girls were resorting to using unsanitary options such as dirty pieces of cloth or pieces of rugs during their periods due to the inaccessibility of even clean strips of cloth. This leads to infections and further complications for many of the girls. In addition, she found many families could not afford supplies and resorted to asking male shopkeepers or other men in the village for help, leading to sexual exploitation and high numbers of young girls with STDs and pregnancy.
After identifying this crucial need in the community, and doing a lot of research, Vath felt compelled to do something to help, and More Precious Than Pearls was formed. She then took action by assembling a dedicated team of volunteers to provide comprehensive education on menstrual cycles and reproductive health. Through a collaboration with a local, distributor in Tanzania they are able to offer a sustainable solution in the form of reusable, washable menstrual pads that can last up to two years! Her team went to work offering free education and a set of 6 washable menstrual pads along with some soap to the girls in the surrounding villages.
Once More Precious than Pearls started the response from the girls and women in the surrounding villages has been overwhelming. Women and girls have traveled from far and wide to participate in educational sessions and receive a set of 6 washable menstrual pads along with soap. The openness and compassion of the More Precious than Pearls team has created a safe space for dialogue and learning, leading to a significant impact on the girls' well-being.
More Precious Than Pearls is dedicated to providing accessible and safe menstrual, reproductive, and self-awareness education for young girls and women of all ages. The organization believes that every girl deserves the right to proper education about her own body and access to safe and affordable menstrual products. More Precious Than Pearls will continue its work to create awareness of this crucial issue, so that every girl and woman knows she is More Precious than Pearls and that she has access to an education about her body so she has the opportunity to reach her full potential.
Join us in our mission to empower these young girls and provide them with the tools they need to succeed. For just $10.00 a girl, we can offer the education and products to help her take care of herself during this very vulnerable time.

Brandy Vath , Founder of the non-profit organization: More Precious Than Pearls. Her interest in mission work began in high school with local youth groups. In college, she worked as a case manager for family social services where her passion for helping the disadvantaged grew. Especially in terms of helping young mothers and children. During her 20+ year career in the corporate world, she continued to volunteer through her church. Vath traveled to Tanzania, East Africa several times on mission trips and felt a calling to transition into working full-time in the nonprofit world.
On one of her trips to Tanzania, a major issue was brought to her attention. Only about 8% of girls are graduating high school and one in three become pregnant before their 18th birthday. Vath found that the biggest reasons for this are lack of education regarding their menstrual cycles, lack of access to menstrual products, social beliefs, and cultural taboos. As a woman and mother of two teenage girls, she felt a personal calling to take action.
Her goal is to provide free education, awareness, and menstrual health products to as many girls and mothers as possible who have nowhere else to turn regarding these issues. She firmly believes in the famous African Proverb: When you educate a woman, you educate a nation.
